A local dealer has a minty pinned/recessed 4" model 28 with Pachmyer grips.
Asking price is $400.
Is that way out of line or a decent deal?
Thanks.

As always it varies by region, but that sounds a bit high to me. Last fall I picked up a mint 4" M28-2, with box and papers for $450 shipped. Also, consider the current high prices of N Frame grips. You'll be spending even more should want to go back to original magnas or targets.
Just my 2 cents.....................

That's what I just paid for a 1972 28-2 with box, papers, etc. Mine also had the original target grips. Having the pacs on it should knock it down a little bit.

Thanks for the replies,
The local dealer's prices here in SW Florida seem to range from "high" to "is that price for two of them?".
It's a gorgeous revolver, but it sounds like it's worth waiting for one with box and papers.

I think thats right on for price. Up here in the 'Burgh, thats a common figure.
I traded a Glock for one, and it was valued at 400.

Dang! Talk about "growth stock," I bought a 5" 28-2 a couple of years ago for $250. No papers or box, but you can't shoot them anyhow.

If it had the proper grips, that price would be ok... with Pachs on it, I would offer $350, and feel good if he took it. JMHO....

Well, I followed the advice, made an offer, and now it's mine, I'm broke and it's your fault!:)
The only real evidence that this one has ever been fired is a little .38 special crud in the chambers. I'm almost tempted to make a safe queen out of it, but given it's got no box and papers, I think it's going to become my new nightstand cannon/range showoff.
Thanks for the help everyone.

Prices for the older "Pre-Hillary hole" (gun lock) S&W revolvers has gone up considerably.
I am seeing that $400 is average for the M-28s around here.

I guess I was lucky, but woulda paid more!!! If you look at my posting "Highway Patrolman" elsewhere on this page, you will see I paid like $299 at the "big box store" Gander Mountain. The last page of that posting, I finally posted pics of my NYSP model, don't fret, you paid a fiar price, they are so nice, the action, the trigger, unreal. Especially if kept up nicely like mine was, by an armorer in the New York State Troopers. Like NEW except for a tiniest bit of holster wear.
