View Full Version : Weaver Rail for Mossberg Shotguns?

I am looking to buy a Mossberg shotgun and want to put an optic on it, and I had a couple questions about that.

I want a 590 but am not sure if the top of the receiver is drilled and tapped like the 500 is.

Also does anyone know of companies that make a weaver rail that bolts down to the holes on the top of the Mossberg receivers? I know mesa tactical does and I?ve heard nothing but good about their stuff I was just wondering if anyone else made one cheaper.

I definitely don?t want a saddle style mount because I also want to mount a side saddle.

To be honest, we have seen Weaver rails at gun shows that were much less expensive than our rail, down around $10.

But we haven't seen any Picatinny rails that cost less than ours.

Both the 500s and 590s have the holes. Our 590 has three holes instead of four, but three is enough.

Are the three holes in the 590 in the same location as three of the holes in the 500?
Can I use a 500 rail on a 590 and just mount it with three of the four screws?

Nothing like trotting an almost-two-year-old post back out, but I couldn't see cranking up a new thread for essentially the same question.
What I'm looking for is a Picatinny rail for a 500A that isn't drilled and tapped for a mount. Mossberg said they'd fix it (or exchange it?) for $75, but also said there are aftermarket rails that attach to the sides of the receiver.
All I've seen along that line are the ones from Mesa Tactical. Those look pretty neat, but so far, they're only for various Remington models.
I'm looking for something that will hold an optic and/or ghost ring sights.

Nothing like finding an almost two year old thread you started been brought back to life and happening to have the answer for it now.

Yes there are saddle type rails for Mossbergs out there. Here's a link to three diferent versions that Midway USA carries

Thanks for the link. Someone recently pointed me to the B-Square, but I'd only seen casual mentions of the Millett until now. One thing I like about the B-Square already is that they make 'em for the Ithaca 37, too.
I'm kinda surprised nobody seems to have made one to Picatinny specs. Dunno what optic I'm going to get yet, but I hope it fits on a Weaver mount.
