Have been shooting semi- autos and rifles for a long time, have always wanted a wheel gun, found a Taurus .357 Mag 4" Barrel, planning to shoot Federal 125 gr JHP, what kind of recoil can I expect? is it similar to my 1911 .45, or .40, or is it going to be more? looking forward to checking it out !
Input will be appreciated

Expect a lot more recoil.

thanks Majic,
should I get some .38 special to start? just don't want to ruin my experience the first time out.

IMO the recoil of a .357 is nothing you should worry about if you are used to shooting handguns.

But for a long range session you should take some .38 specials with you. Shooting .357 mag all day is more tiring and most people shoot more accurate with the specials.

the 357 is a lot louder not only that its got a weird sound pitch to it other then that not a problem. my brother in law just bought a 357 taurus 6" he seems to like it alot

I got my first revolver last week and went to range with it first time yesterday.
I had not shot a wheelie before, just .22, 9x19 and .45 semis. I was a bit apprehensive about the recoil, but it was much less than I expected. Managed to get all 6 rounds inside the black at 25 yards on the first try :p
I shot a box of .357s first then switched to .38 specials. I swear the recoil felt like .22 with those, only a little "sharper".
I am *very* happy with my new revolver.

A big part of recoil is how it feels in your hand, proper grips that are comfortable for you will ease a lot of it. For example, the older Colt Target
grips fit my hand just fine, to fire an S&W I need aftermarket grips, usually Pachmayr or Herrett's.

Sell it and run, before you get hooked on revolvers! You'll be sorry. :p
