is this easy? Sometimes I see an old shotgun I like and want to buy, but it has the durn vent rib. How would you remove it?

nedfig, they are held in place either by soft solder or adhesive. Either will be loosened by heat. But you will need to refinish the barrel afterward. George

can I use a hair drier or heat in oven? What kind of heat source works best?

I will assume you mean with a propane torch.
If it is this easy to remove let me carry this one step further i would like to make my 500A shorter what is involved in cutting the barrel to "riot" gun type dimensions now that i can rid it of the funky rib?

Nedfig and Unforgiven, it would take a propane torch but I have seen some pop loose at lower temperatures. George
