quick one here. In the Ruger GP100, is there a difference in barrel weight/size between the fixed and adjustable sight versions. i havent been able to see two in person side by side but pics seem to suggest that the fixed sight version has a heavier "target" type barrel and the adjustable sight model has a slimmer lighter barrel. Is this true or are the pics ive seen online playin tricks with my eyes. Thanks much again, you guys have helped me alot :)

in the new cataloge the adjustable sight GP100's weigh in at 3oz more, 41 ounzes as compared to 38 on the ones with 4" barrels.

Yes, the adjustable-sighted GP100s have the heavier barrel. Even on the full-lug version of the fixed-sight GP100 the top rib of the barrel is not as heavy as on the full-lug adjustable version. And I've got durn near every configuration of GP100 that I have come across.

dont know if anyones still lookin at this post, but if anyone sees this and can answer this id appreciate it much. i looked at an online catologe of sorts for the ruger guns, and it suggests there is a heavy barrel version of the fixed sight GP100. are there really that many configurations. or is this site fulla buffalo chips.

Not real sure if this is what you're asking or not...but at some points Ruger has made the fixed sight 4" with the half shroud and at times they made it with the full underlug. I have one with the full underlug. On Ruger's site, in the online catalog, they don't show a fixed sight .357 4" at all. Just the 3". And then in blued two different .38 fixed sighted 4 inchers, one with full shroud and one with half shroud.

Confusing.

And with this post, I have reached my centennial! :D

There used to be that many configurations. They made a 1/2 lug fixed sight in both blue and stainless and a full lug fixed sight in both blue and stainless in .357. They also made a 1/2 lug stainless in .38 and I'm not sure what other .38 versions there were or are. A year or two ago they dropped most of these and now show no fixed sight 4" .357s and only the stainless 3". Not sure if they still offer 3" 1/2 and full lug but I think only the full lug. They used to offer the 3" in a full lug blued version. I don't think they offered the 1/2 lug 3" in blue. Ruger has really pared down the GP100 line to those models they think will sell the best, I guess. They still offer 4" fixed in .38 special, I think only in blue (not sure about that). Fixed sight GP100s for some irrational reason are my favorites and I have a pretty good cross section.
