Spotting Scope - Need some help!!

I am in need of a spotting scope for a Tule Elk hunt and need the advice from those of you with the knowledge. I've been hunting now for over 30 years and have had many types and styles of binoculars but never have owned a spotting scope. Now it is time to buy a spotting scope and I know there are many manufacturers and prices are from cheap (<$100.00) to very expensive (>$1000.00). Here are my requirements/thoughts:
. Range - Probably out to 600 yards
. Price - No more than $300.00
. Light enough to pack in a day pack
. Armour coated (haven't a clue)
. Tripod (haven't a clue. Feel I need one)
. Fixed or adjustable (haven't a clue)
. Used or new (clue me in, is this an option)
. Light gathering capability? I may need it at dusk in lower light This is all I can think of right now, but there may be other things I haven't considered.

Everyone in this forum has been great and I hope that I have added some good info myself. I will use the advice that I receive here to make my purchase. I need a little help. Thanks in advance.

Given your specs, I recommend the Bushnell Spacemaster series. They're under $300 and have excellent optics for the price. Best price I've found is at http://www.swfa.com/bushnell3.html .
By the tripod from a local catalog store that sells cameras.

I own a Bushnell Spacemaster Model Model# 78-1217. I'm very pleased with it. You can read more about it at http://www.bushnell.com/productinfo/spottingscopes/spacemaster.html . It comes with a bipod and back pack carrying case.

Try the Kowa TS9 cost less than $200.00 last
I heard and is 50mm lens w/ 20mm eyepiece.
