Hello all, Im from Texas. I just wanted to introduce myslef and say that i am pleasantly surprised at the attitude and maturity i have found here.

Now i havent read every thread, but from what ive read it seems like yall are a great bunch of people.

I'll admit that i was a bit leary about signing up. I thought id find a bunch of Confederate flag waving, "kill em all", Anti-government, rebels here. :)

On the contrary, i have read some very intelligent, helpful, and humble posts by many members.

Im happy to be a new member.

While im here, id like to ask a question.

Im in the market for a wall safe and i really like the Qwikcase (http://www.popguns.com/gunsafe/default.htm) but im not sure if its sturdy enough.

I want an in-wall gun safe, something i can put a picture over, with the same features as the qwikcase. Are there other options?

I want something thats built well and not something any thief can take a hammer to and smash open. Id like to be able to bolt it to the wall and/or reinforce it keeping it from being stolen if there were ever to be a burglary when im not home. haha, maybe im asking for too much :)

This is pretty long, :) Thanks again !

~Henry

Any thoughts?

Welcome aboard! New guys buy ammo and beer. A box of .38 special and a six pack of Guinness will do.
Someone will be along shortly to address your safe question I'm sure.

Yeah I joined yesterday and was surprised as well. I have been on some forums and the people have been mean and grummpy. But the people here are all nice. They know thier stuff too for the most part.

I appreciate the idea of the case, but if you weren't home, I would rip the thing out of the wall and take it with me. Perhaps epoxied high strength steel lag bolts into concrete?

First, Welcome to TFL :).

I don't have one (and for the life of me I can't remember the name of the company or the name of the safe, maybe this will jog another members memory) but a couple of years ago there was a post like this one (forget which board) and there was a company that would remove one entire section of wall (between two studs) and then replace the studs with metal beams and then bolt in a safe that would fit in the wall that you choose. Then the door would be lined up and painted the same color as your wall so when closed, it looked like it was just part of the wall. The lock plate was a fake plug or thermostate (whichever you wanted) that hide the touchpad entry system.

I'm pulling this from memory so I may be wrong on a few (or all) counts. Sorry I couldn't be of better service :(.

Dihappy, . . .

Just a suggestion, . . . think more about the floor safe variety. If there is any inkling by a bg that you have a safe, . . . he'll tote his handy dandy McColluch and after two rope pulls, . . . your safe will be gone and your wall will have one ugly hole.

Conversely, you can get a fairly good floor safe for under 400 bucks, . . . it bolts both to your wall studs (put it in a corner to make it even harder to get) and through bolts to your floor. Yeah, . . . chain saw charlie can get it out too, . . . but then he's gotta carry 400 lbs of slick steel with no handle to speak of.

Just a suggestion (the one I took, obviously).

By the way, . . . if you get out west on I-20 to Big Spring, . . . stop by Big John's, . . . best eatin' in a four county area.

May God bless,
Dwight

Welcome to TFL.

I 2nd the floor safe.

Gotta be quick, I'm sure Big Brother is watching so they can come snatch my flag. :D

Seriously, the floor safe is a good idea. You are also correct that most folks here are decent and, even more rare, ready to listen.

Glad to have you on board.

Welcome. I am also new to the forum. I regularly post on other forums. The fact is I did't even know about forums like this prior to January. Pretty sheltered life, I lead on the internet.

I believe the floor safe suggestion is sound. You must not have much to put in a safe. If you plan on being active in the firearm market, you might consider a larger free standing safe as it will allow for future growth and they are not really easily carried out of the house unless they have a hand truck or better. Lots of good maufactures and models to choose from.

Well, im impressed :)

Thanks to all of you for the fine welcome and suggestions.

Dwight, thank you for recommending a floor safe. I had seen a couple, but didnt really consider going that route until now.

Would you mind recommending a brand? or emailing me a link?

I dont know if it will work for me though as i have a slab floor and not up on supports :) Am i correct in saying that a floor safe might not work for me?

And since i got so many replies, how do you guys secure your weapons when you arent home? Yeah, i could purchase a big upright, but i want to be able to get to my weapon easily and quickly. I am interested in an upright though for other things like rifles and documents but was looking for one like i posted for just a handgun.

THanks fellas!

No, actually the slab floor is ideal for a floor safe. It anchors right to the concrete, makes it virtually impossible to steal. I've seen some nifty lock boxes specifically for handguns you can mount under a desk, in a drawer, nearly anywhere like these:

http://www.buyasafe.com/Scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=40
http://www.kcsafe.com/Handgun3.htm

But, like the other one you originally asked about, these would be easy to steal, so they'd have to be well-hidden. Here are some more floor safes I found while searching:

http://www.wcliberty.com
http://www.securitybase.com/Web_store/ws400CS.cgi?store=safe&page=safe/AmsecGunsafes.htm&no_search=Y&cart_id=
http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/safes/index.asp
http://www.firearmnews.com/directory/index.asp?CatID=133

I'd try to find one locally or close enough you can go pick it up. Delivery charges on something like this are pretty stiff. Hope this helps, and welcome to TFL!

Dihappy, . . .

I guess my terminology could have been better. I did not mean a safe that actually goes into your floor, . . . but rather one that sits on your floor, . . . and I believe you referred to it as an upright safe.

The upright is my choice, . . . and they are sold in gun shops, . . . "TSC" stores, . . . I haven't seen one in Wally-World, . . . but it's day is comint too.

The big differences are the size, . . . if it is fire proof, . . . and the fire rating. If you can afford a big one (I couldn't at the time), . . . it is probably also fire rated, . . . and really discourages the random break in opportunistic smash and grab guy.

He looks real funny totin a 480 lb safe down the street in ragged jeans, tennys, and a ball cap on backwards. They bolt through your floor, . . . or if you have a slab, . . . you can drill anchor holes into the concrete and bolt it down with the anchors.

Anyway, . . . get a safe, . . . big enough for your valuables & fire sticks, . . . and be safe :D .

May God bless,
Dwight

Thanks guys. I understand now and your right, anchoring it into cement would be very difficult to steal, haha :)

I guess the only thing i need to do now is find one that can be quickly and easily accessible (key pad).

Thanks again guys, and ill chime in if i decide on something.

I may be jumping the gun here (pun intended, lol), but now i need to think about a weapon :)

That new Glock 35 is looking sweet :)

Welcome. Today is my first day. I'm a regular on Glock Talk with the same user name.

I needed a legal size file cabinet and a gun safe. I got an offer from Office Depot (or Max) for a fireproof, two drawer, legal size safe for $200.00. I like it because: 1) It is very heavy so difficult to steal. 2) It holds the real estate files I want to protect and 3) It doesn't look like a gun safe so no reason for a burgular to care about it.

My long guns are in a $99.00 safe that is almost hidden in the basement. If someone does find it they will also find that it is bolted to the wall and studs.

You have found a neat place to listen and express ideas and gear. If your a little like me you can forget how long your on this rascal. It is a nice neighborhood. Sure we have spats and argue a little sometimes. I think when all is said and done we are a good community and I sure learn a lot here.

Welcome again and see you later................. :D Rojoe
