View Full Version : Will a Bushnell "Banner" Line scope hold up to...

the recoil of a light sporter rifle in 7mm RemMag? I put this 4-12x40AO Banner on my Savage 110 in 7remmag, but wonder if anyone knows or thinks that this will work fine, or is an exercise in futility, in that the scope will likely break/not hold zero with the stout recoil of this gun? I don't presently want to shell out a lot for a good scope, but I do want to shoot it some. However, of course I don't want to break this scope that might serve well on another gun, such as a rimfire. I really like this scope for the money - at $99 new, $89 new on sale, it seems nice, with the AO and all, and decent magnification.

I HAD a 6x18x50AO Bushnell Banner on my Win. mod 70 super shadow .300WSM it was good at first then went south after about 30-40 rounds, I think it was overwhelmed by recoil. I sent it back to the factory for repair and they sent me a new one. I don't think the 7 Mag and the .300 are a lot different in the recoil department, that said it probably wont hold up. I put the new scope on my AR :D . Bushnell does stand behind their product.

Good luck

I switched from 3X9 Simmons to a 4x12 Bushnell Sportsman last year, and will be switching to something else next year. I shoot at least once every 2 months or so in the off season, and I've constantly had to re-zero my rifle. I was shooting a 2 inch group at 200 yards at the begining of gun season. The last weekend of the season I missed a nice doe at 125 yards, and when I went to the range later that day, I was 5 inches high and 4 inches right at 100 yards. It had to be the scope because I baby my rifle and when not in my hands, it stays in an aluminum hard case. I really like the scope, but it just can't seem to handle the punch.

Yeah, I think I had better relegate it to a rimfire from the get-go and not break it, and save up for a Leuold Rifleman at a minimum for the 7mag. Thanks!

Get the leuopold anyways, you will be much happier with the clarity, FOV and quality of product with it, for just a bit more cost, and not have to worry about this question. You spent upwards of $500 for the gun, I am guessing, whats 100-200 more for a decent scope for it? If/When I get a rifle, Leuopold is the only scope I will get. (Zeiss, etc are nice, but ................$$$$)
