Hello:

I'm trying to find resources on competition shooting events in Illinois. I want to start competing, but don't really know where to begin. What types of events are there? I've heard of IPSA, and IDPA (I think those are the correct names). Does anyone here have any info?

Thanks,

Erick

We discussed a couple of the local clubs here:

There are actually a lot of shooting opportunities in our area; it's just a matter of matching one up with you interests/equipment/availibilty.

Presuming you've got your gunhandling squared away, a good place to start is to simply head out to a match. If you don't feel comfortable shooting your first time out, then simply observe (that's not uncommon at all).

If you are new to shooting, a basic NRA class or a "new shooter's clinic" is a good idea - IMHO, it's pretty tough to divine fundamentals in a competition setting.
