I was reloading some 357's this weekend using AA-7 and when I was done I thought I'd do some 38's. After looking through all my data I couldn't find a single listing for AA-7 in the 38 Special. Any adventurous TFL'ers out there that have any? I shoot 158gr LSWC almost exclusively in 38's so if anyone has a recipe for that it will be greatly appreciated. All legalese will apply in that I am fully and totally responsible for any reloads that I make.

Thanks.

I just loaded some but don't remember how much powder. I believe the load came straight from the last issue of Handloder magazine, an article about the 38 spcl. It had standard and +P loads, and at least one of the +P loads had #7. I suspect you already know this, but #7 will only be useful for high end 38 loads, no plinking stuff.

I will not be able to get my copy of the article until next week, anybody here have a copy?

If you are still interested, I have the #7 data.
The article in Handloader magazine lists 8.2 gr. for a +P load with a 146 gr. bullet. I was loading 158 SWCs so extrapolated to get 7.7 gr.

The link above to Steve's pages lists 7.3 gr. as max, presumably for a standard (not +P) load. BTW, thanks Steve, your pages are a great source of info.

And finally, the obligatory disclaimer. The 7.7 / 158 load is higher than any I have seen listed anywhere so you are on your own as you approach it. I believe it to be safe, but I fired it in a 357 for my use.

Thanks folks. I've got your pages bookmarked Steve and will be a regular visitor, what a wonderful collection of data.

Stay safe.
