I was 19 or 20, it was a Colt Series 70 Commander in matte nickel with walnut grips. It was love at first sight... http://www.beigerocket.com/images/hearts.gif

19. Govt issue someone had brought home via the five finger discount. Well worn with a lot of shake, but I loved that .45.

1970, at age 23. The gun was a Colt Combat Commander
purchased from the infamous Woolco department store
chain, for the sum of $125.00 NIB.

Best Wishes,

Springfield Mil-Spec bought while home on Christmas Exodus 1992. $379, plus a box of ammo, Dad signed for it and I had it that day!

In 1966. Technically, it belonged to my dad.
It was an Ithaca made, WWII issue pistol with about two inches of mercuriatic primer freebore. Fed empty sized cases and shot way better than I could at the time.

Stolen from my home in 1976, the night my daugter was born.

Hated the thing! I Wanted a RIFLE! Stupid Geneva Convention!
Actually, the gun wasn't bad, a Singer from WWII, but packing it made me more of a target:eek:

As a Civilian, I didn't get one till I was in my 30's and had a number of Milsurp and CMP long guns, but I'm no longer hate the things...Mine does me just fine....Got a 45LC too:D

I got mine when I was 44 years old. Umm, last Saturday to be exact. :p

SigArms M2. Now I can hang out with BOTH groups of people who hate each other - the .45 crowd and the 9mm crowd :D

A Webley MK-IV, faced off to use .45 ACP in half moon clips. Wish I still had it.

Didn't get a .45 auto until I was 20.

Best,
Johnny

Crimper-D, don't you wish you could have brought that Singer home? :(

My first .45 was at age 20, an Auto Ordinance that my dad signed for. It was a total POS, and was quickly sold and replaced with a Colt. I still have it, albeit slightly modified. :)

First .45 I actually shot was my dad's 1966 commercial, at age eleven.

When I was 18 and there weren't so many laws as to prohibit purchase. As soon as I was able I purchased the AMT Hardballer, and that was all it would feed-- FMJ. It used to irritate me to no possible end that the pistol simply and steadfastly refused to feed anything else, but I genuinely enjoyed shooting it with FMJ. When I was 20 I had to sell it to make ends meet during a lean period. I still wish I had it.

21 or 22. It was around '81 or '82. It's still 33 1/3% of my gun collection and still shoots well.

Shortly after my 21st birthday, a Springfield Armory Champion caught my eye, it became the first of many pistols in my collection :D

31. I bought my 1911 in October, was allowed by the 'great' :barf: state of Maryland to pick it up in November. I have only been shooting for a little over a year, it was my fourth handgun.

Considering that I have 13 years to go, ALL my .45's have been purchased while I was (am?) under 40.

In 1964, I bought a beat to heck, Ithaca bring home from a guy I worked with. No finish on the pistol, or at least not much, the gummit markings were all ground off. It shot fine though, it was my "keep this tubby body safe" pistol until I shot it enough to peen the slide locking lugs. I'll never sell it. Oh yes, I was 22 at the time and paid $25.00 for the pistol.

Within a month after my 21st birthday, all the way back in 1989.

It was a parked Springfield Armory.

Learned how to tear it down, put in an adjustable trigger and sold for about the same amount that I paid for it.

Been buying pre-45 1911's since and never looked back and never added any junk to them either.

I carried my first .45 starting in 1971 and did so on and off for 22 years of active duty with the U.S. Army in line units, but I didn't BUY my first one until I got out and started shooting for fun and competition.
