Here is the site for the course requirements.

http://www.state.nj.us/lps/dcj/agguide/firearms2001.pdf

We are going to shoot the 60 round course of fire starting out at 25 yards and working our way in to 1 yard. Page # 9-62 will give you the rundown on the course for those of you who want to practice. It is Qualification "IS R HQC 1" ($5.00 each, 50/50)

We are going to have a rope shoot and a pole shoot.

We will be shooting skeet with the shotguns and any other games we can come up with. Any questions, feel free to ask.

:D

How far away are we going to be Shooting the Rope and Pole at? You realise I'm going to burn a major hole in My pocket if I shoot My 45acp all day.

I wonder how much ammo I should bring?:) Can I try the Qualification course with My Ruger Single Six?

Maybe I should bring My 38 Special instead:confused:

RAY WOODROW 3RD
February 11, 2002, 04:33 PM
I'm not sure SodaPop on the distance for the rope or pole shoot at this time. I would like to state that for the police course we should use only calibers that the police might carry. I don't think they carry .22's:eek: The .38 might be better for overall shooting but the .45 is a definite for the pole and rope shoot I would think.

And about burning a major hole in your pocket, I thought you were good with your pistol? I guess we will find out! ;)

Jamie Young
February 11, 2002, 04:40 PM
I am absolutely not very good with Pistols. I'm defanitely a rifle guy.

I really need better sights on My 45acp. I'm getting better with the Beretta, but I really need trigger work done to that. Yours is much nicer:)

I carry the 38Special, so I probable should practice more with that, plus ammo is cheaper.

I don't know If I'll have time to do any reloading so I really need to watch My $$ right now.

Why does't ammo grow on a tree?:(

9mmMike
February 11, 2002, 06:06 PM
Whew! I thought you meant page(s) 9 thru 62 !

9-62 is much less ammo! ;)

Directions anyone? You've been there Soda? Can I follow you up, over, or what ever it is?

Mike

Where are you coming from Mike? I've been there before.:)

9mmMike
February 11, 2002, 06:29 PM
I'm in Trooper. I usually go up to Lansdale (ala 363) to catch the N/E extension for W&W or the Plymouth Meeting entrance of the T-Pike for non-extension travel. Is this a T-Pike trip or an adventure down 76 or the Blue Route?
Mike

Jamie Young
February 11, 2002, 07:19 PM
We are going to be going down 76. I have a location In Trooper PA. Do you want to ride up together? Your about 20mins from me. I didn't know you were that close.

are we locked into the NJ training thang? Can't we just shoot for fun?? I know Im not that good to pass such a test..

Frank

RAY WOODROW 3RD
February 11, 2002, 11:31 PM
Of course we can FlyinGN, its all in the name of fun. Believe me I'm not the best shot in the world either and in earlier posts you read SodaPop state the same thing. Nothing wrong with friendly competition.;)

Jamie Young
February 11, 2002, 11:37 PM
Can I put My $5 in the pot and then Bet $10 who is really going to win? And then I'll take 40% of the Pot if I win?

How about an Affirmative Action shoot? Where the Winner lose's his money and has to give all the money back to the losers? Unless its Me of course:D

RAY WOODROW 3RD
February 12, 2002, 12:21 AM
SodaPop,
You know that we shoot at the range for free. Any donations are appriciated in order to keep the range operating that way and I don't want to charge anybody for its use. I figured this is a way for the range to make some money for renovations and repairs and give people a chance to win something in return. Does this make sense?

Jody Hudson
February 12, 2002, 12:22 AM
What are the Jersey rules for transporting? Are we allowed to have guns and ammo? ;)

What are the rules at the range?

I've heard so many stories about how anti-weapon Jersey is, that I wonder what is legal and safe to do there.

Jamie Young
February 12, 2002, 01:20 AM
Can I set up a Lemonade Stand? I'll donate half the Proceeds to your Gun Club:D

RAY WOODROW 3RD
February 12, 2002, 01:30 AM
Sure. I don't know how you will shoot and sell lemonade but if you want to go for it.;)

RAY WOODROW 3RD
February 12, 2002, 02:51 AM
The rules are.........There are no rules! Except the proper safety things such as no shooting in the air (duh), no touching ammo or firearms when people are down range (duh), make sure your targets are set up so that the rounds you shoot impact the berm behind it, etc, etc. This is a private range. The only people who will be on it will be TFLers and some Buckeye Gun Club Members who want to shoot with us. We can set up any senario we want. In other words we can do things on this range that you can't on others. As for transportation of firearms, ammo and firearms must be seperate in different containers preferably locked and in the trunk or as far away from your person as possible. Magazines can only be 15 rounders or less. Hollow points are legal as long as you go to the range and back home without stoping within reason(need gas). Check out the N.R.A.'s web site and click on State firearms law in N.J. for anything I might have missed. Any other questions feel free to ask. YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD TIME, I GAURANTEE IT!;)

Renee and I would love to meet her. At least Renee wouldn't be the only "Rose among the Thorns". Are there no other N.J. Females that shoot? They must all still be in the closet and afraid their soccer mommy status would be destroyed or something.

The gun club now has a web site as of This Sunday. Here is the link to the website. Let me know if you see errors or if you have any idea's for improvement.

Got your E-mail, thanks for the invite!

Big question, are you paying the lawyers' fees after we out-of-staters bring our pistols into NJ and are arrested. Sorry but the peoples' republic of NJ is off limits to foreigners from America.

Where were those State Regulations on Crossing State lines with Firearms? I want to print those out and carry them with me for the trip.

RAY WOODROW 3RD
February 13, 2002, 04:27 PM
nra.org will have them for you SodaPop. Search for N.J. state firearms law.

Hey Ron,
As long as you don't bring anything illegal in the state such as mags that hold more than 15 rounds or steetsweeper shotguns you will be O.K. Don't be such a wimp :p

RAY WOODROW 3RD

N.J.S. 2C:39-6(g)

"All weapons being transported under paragraph (2) of subsection b.,
subsection e., or paragraph (1) or (3) of subsection f. of this section shall be
carried unloaded and contained in a closed and fastened case, gunbox,
securely tied package, or locked in the trunk of the automobile in which it
is being transported, and in the course of travel shall include only such
deviations as are reasonably necessary under the circumstances."

So keep your firearm unloaded and in a securely tied package and store the ammo separately (i.e.: firearms in a tied box stored in a locked trunk,
and ammo in the back seat stored in a closed ammo box). Any additional precautions like adding a trigger lock or lockable gun case or dismantling
your firearm is totally voluntary. And remember you are only allowed to deviate in your course of travel as reasonably necessary under the
circumstances. In other words, don't pack your firearms in your car on Monday for a trip to the range on Wednesday.

Transportation and Use of Hollow Point
Ammunition by Sportsmen

| chapter 3 | chapter 39 | chapter 58 | colt match target/springfield m1a |
| assault firearms | retired officers |
| hollow point ammunition | transporting a firearm |

Provided certain conditions are met, a sportsman may transport and use hollow point ammunition. There are no restrictions
preventing a sportsman from keeping such ammunition at his home.

N.J.S.A 26:39-3f. (1) limits the possession of hollow nose ammunition. However, there is a general exception which allows for the
purchase of this ammunition but restricts the possession of it to specified locations. This exception provides that:

(2) Nothing is subsection f. (1) shall be construed to prevent a person from keeping such ammunition at his dwelling,
premises or other land owned or possessed by him, or from carrying such ammunition from the place of purchase to
said dwelling or land . . . [N.J.S.A 26:39-3g (2)].

Thus a person may purchase this ammunition and keep it within the confines of his property. Subsection f. (1) further
exempts from the prohibited possession of hollow nose ammunition "persons engaged in activities pursuant to N.J.S.A
26:39-3f. . . ."
N.J.S.A 26:39-3f. (1).

Activities contained in N.J.S.A 26:39-3f. can be broken down as follows:

1.A member of a rifle or pistol club organized under rules of the National Board for the Promotion of Rifle Practice and
which filed its charter with the State Police;
2.A person engaged in hunting or target practice with a firearm legal for hunting in this State;
3.A person going directly to a target range, and;
4.A person going directly to an authorized place for "practice, match, target, trap or skeet shooting exhibitions."

As with other ammunition and firearms, a sportsman would have to comply with the provisions of N.J.S.A 26:39-3f. and g when
transporting hollow nose ammunition to a target range. The ammunition should be stored in a closed and fastened container or
locked in the trunk of the motor vehicle in which it is being transported. The course of travel should be as direct as possible when
going to and leaving from the target range with "only such deviations as are reasonably necessary under the circumstances."
N.J.S.A 26:39-3g.

If the sportsman’s club member plans to hunt with a rifle and use hollow nose ammunition in a state where this is permitted, he must
comply with the provisions of U.S.C.A. 926A and N.J.S.A 26:39-3f (3)(a) and (6)(g), which is consistent with the federal law, in
transporting the firearm and ammunition. The firearm should be unloaded and neither the firearm nor the ammunition should be
readily accessible from the passenger compartment. If the vehicle does not have a trunk, the firearm and the ammunition should be
contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or the console. 18 U.S.C.A. 926A.

In addition, the sportsman should have a valid hunting license in his possession from the state in which he plans to hunt and should
be familiar with that state’s gun laws. N.J.S.A 26:39-3f (3)(a) requires a person hunting in this State to have a valid hunting license in
his possession while traveling to or from the hunting area. Hunting with hollow nose ammunition is not permitted in New Jersey.
N.J.S.A 23:4-3. Thus, possession of a state license would not indicate destination. In the case of a New Jersey resident traveling to
another state to hunt, it logically would follow that the hunting license would be from the state where the hunter is going. Although
the federal statute does not require possession of a hunting license, it does require that the person transporting the firearm be going
to a state where possession of that object is lawful. A valid hunting licenses from that state effectively supplies the proof.

These conditions for use and transport of hollow nose ammunition are consistent with the legislative intent to restrict the use of such
ammunition to a limited number of people. It is well established that in construing a statute exceptions are to be "strictly but
reasonably construed, consistent with the manifest reason and purpose of the law." Service Armament Co. v. Hyland, 70 N.J. 550,
558-559 (1976). The State Supreme Court has "characterized the Gun Control Law as ‘highly purposed and conscientiously designed
toward preventing criminal and other unfit elements from acquiring firearms while enabling the fit elements of society to obtain them
with minimal burdens.’" Id. at 559.

What is Everyone going to use for the Qualification Course?

I'm still not sure if I'm using the Colt 1991A1 or the 38 Special.

If I pay $10 can I use My 16gauge for the Pistol Qualification?

I will use my itty-bitty Glock 26.
Anyone looking to try anything they don't have?
Is pdmoderator coming? I have a Glock for him to try.
Mike

Oh yeah, I also have a definite maybe from the lovely Mrs. 9mmMike about attending although I doubt she'll shoot. She's shy.

RAY WOODROW 3RD
February 13, 2002, 11:14 PM
Yes! I hope she can come. Jody said his significant other might show up also and Renee won't feel like the fifth wheel. pdmoderator has cancelled due to the fact that he has a gun class the weekend before the shoot and the weekend after the shoot and doesn't want to loose all of his guns during the divorce that would ensue after so much trigger time in a small time frame. I feel his pain!;)

Ok, if I can make it, I'll bring my collection to date:
Kimber 1911

Kahr MK9

Ray, you mentioned needing a holster, and whatnot. Can you give us an idea of what we'll need?

RAY WOODROW 3RD
February 16, 2002, 04:05 PM
The shoot is on Saturday the 16th not Sunday Armando B. Rovert, any type of holster. You can put your mags in your pockets if you want but you should have some sort of holster to draw from. Any other questions? Hotdogs and soda will be on sale at the club. You must bring your own ammo. Bring targets for later but I have the targets for the police qual. If you bring your significant other ther is a living room with a fireplace, radio T.V etc. for them to relax while you go postal on the range. My wife will be there and it looks like two other TFLers will be bringing theirs also so don't be shy. My 14 year old son will be there too, if you have a teenager who would like to come and try some shooting.:)

Jamie Young
February 16, 2002, 06:06 PM
soda will be on sale

NO I WILL NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't make up My mind on what I'm going to Bring. I shot My Beretta today and shot better than I've ever shot before. I was shooting Cheap Junky Lead $5 a box stuff and shooting 4 inch groups at 25yds. I"VE NEVER DONE THAT BEFORE. I wish I could get that good with My Colt 1991A1. I may end up putting better sights on it. But thats another $180 to throw into the fire.

Hmmmm, maybe an old cactus:D

I'm bringing my two revolvers, S&W 625 and Python. I have a holster if somebody doesn't have one.

I also have a few holsters for 1911's and other autos if somebody needs one.

I'll also bring a box of pigeons for the shotguns.

What else?

RAY WOODROW 3RD
February 21, 2002, 10:49 PM
DonQatU,
I have no idea why. I guess so when police are killed or wounded they can push more of their gun laws on us. Who knows? I talked to an individual who is on the police training commision and he stated that the drill is the minimum required by the Police commision and is not to be considered combat training or anything of the sort and they stress to the different departments that they need more range time than the minimum requirements. We won't be using the "Q" pin targets for the shoot. We will be using the 25 yard B-21E blue on white 25 yard silhouette target since it has scoring at all the different hitting points instead of just a hit or miss in the "Q" targets.

We hope to make it. Sorry to have missed the Quakertown Shoot, things were a little rushed at that time for us. I gather that we are going to have some police combat shooting. It wouldn't hurt to do so but the main thing is to have them out of "easy access". Lock the gun and keep the ammo in a paper bag from the food store. Store them in the trunk of vehicle. Drive the speed limit and you will be fine.;)

RAY WOODROW 3RD
March 3, 2002, 02:55 AM
Don't forget people. NO MAGAZINES THAT CAN HOLD OVER 15 ROUNDS. Drive straight to the range and straight back until you get back to your prospective states. Ammo must be seperated from the firearm. Try to have both locked up seperately. Put both in trunk. Do not have magazines loaded while transporting. I think that is it for now. Any questions? :D

All firearms transported into the State of New Jersey:

Shall be carried unloaded and contained in a closed and fastened case, gunbox, securely tied package, or
locked in the trunk of the automobile in which it is being transported, and in the course of travel, shall include

The firearm should not be directly accessible from the passenger compartment of the vehicle. If the vehicle does
not have a compartment separate from the passenger compartment, the firearm and ammunition must be in a
locked container other than the vehicle's glove compartment or console.
