If you are enamored of 1911s, you could consider the Sig P938 for a small concealment pistol, because of its very similar manual of arms.
A question for those who recommended a Sig 1911, myself not being a 1911 buff: I have a vague memory of reading somewhere that some Sig 1911 internal parts are not interchangeable with other 1911s. True? And if so, how big an issue might this be? |

Frankly, if you are really going to spend enough to buy something Dan Wesson 1911 priced, you owe it to yourself to make it a Dan Wesson. If CCW is really where this is leading, I think Dan Wesson, Sig, & Colt all make CCO style guns which, IMHO, is the best size for CCW.
If my 3.5" SA didn't shoot and run so well, I would be looking that way. Avoid the MIMber or the mini Sigs. Many are fine, but a Dan Wesson could be a first last and only pistol! |

There can be only one.....
The Browning Hi-Power Practical.
I've been carrying Hi-Powers since the 70s; never had one need service. Accurate, tough, and have served in most of the world's armies over the last 80 years.

21st birthday what handgun?
I've always wanted a 1911 .45. Did my research and settled on the Magnum Research Desert Eagle 1911 G. It has most of the features as the Kimber, but not the price tag. I get many comments on it at the range where I serve as RSO. My gunsmith is putting Meprolight tridium sights on it now!

I have a sig sauer p229 and it is fantastic. If you intend to carry though be warned the sigs are pretty fat guns and print pretty bad. You will want a good holster and belt if you intend to carry it. I don't have my ccw yet, but I have been experimenting with holsters, and actually hiding this thing is pretty hard.
Best of luck picking something out. There are a ton of great guns out there so take your time and try things out. |
