300 blackout barrel,.. which one?

I'm building a budget 300 blackout and already have the lower. I'm debating on the $250 wilson stainless 16" recon or the cmmg 16" wasp for around $210. I prefer the stainless but am considering the wasp treated barrel. What is everyone's experiences with these two barrels? How well would the wasp treated chome moly barrel compare to the stainless in terms of corrosion resistance and throat erosion issues?

I just built a 300AAC with a PSA 16" 1-7 Cold Hammer Forged barrel around $279.00 is what I paid used a YHM low profile gas block and I have been very happy with it, ironically my best groups have been with Hornady 300 Whisper ammo getting 5 shot groups well under a inch at 100yds. Anyway I know that didn't help on the questions you asked, while the 300 AAC is growing in popularity it is still a uncommon round so you might not get very many responses on this forum. There is a few dedicated 300AAC Blackout fourms, you just have to look for them.

Built mine with a Wilson Combat SS barrel and have been nothing but happy with its performance.

I have a 300 Blackout build with the CMMG 16" Wasp Barrel and the unit is a
1" MOA at 100 yards. I am thrilled with the capabilities of this rifle at under 200 yards and the 110-150 grain bullets I am re-loading appear to do a lot more damage at close ranges than any of my .223 re-loads. For it's capabilities and close range defense it is a real great option though I wish folks on some forums would quit trying to compare the .223 with the 300 Blackout. To me there are very few similarities except the AR platform. I feel that either one of the barrel options you mention will work just fine for you. We sometimes talk endlessly about wear and tear on rifles that the average shooter could not have happen in 3 lifetimes. Keeping your barrels cleaned and oiled on a regular basis is the key to passing the rifle on to the next generation for most of us.

Wilson for me too.

Cycle both super and subsonic without a suppressor. If you have a suppressor, the barrel is correctly threaded.

If you are really on a budget as you say, the CMMG barrel should serve you fine. I don't have experience with either, but I do own a PSA 300 AR.

Just keep it clean and lubed and you should be fine. $40 might be a factor on this build, but if the extra $40 wont break the budget then go for the stainless barrel. You can always go cheaper on other AR parts, but the barrel is a pretty important part of a rifle. Hope that helps.
