weahterby factory recoil pads vs rem 700's

I was looking at a wood vanguard in 300wby and a 7mm mag in rem 700.
The wby recoil pad was maybe a hair under .50" .The rem 700 on the other hand was really thick like a shotguns pad.Does all weatherby have thin recoil pads? Maybe thats why they kick so hard?

Weatherbys kick so hard because they burn lots of powder and the stocks have a lot of drop at the heel. The recoil pads on the MarkV are almost 1" thick, I guess I never paid much attention to the Vanguard.
