Does anyone use Pyrodex 44/45 30gr Pellets in their revolvers. I'm new to the game and was wondering if this would be a simpler solution to loose powder. Would be using in a 1858. Thanks

Used some pellets but only after a crushed them back into grain powder.

Guess that means "No".

Very few people use pellets in revolvers. Most of those who've tried it have gone back to loose powder. They prefer the flexibility of being able to specify different loads. And there's an ongoing complaint about reliability with pellets.

My bud uses them regularly in his stainless Ruger ROA - no issues, consistant accuracy, etc, etc.

OK, thanks. I plan on getting a Pietta 1858 at Cabela's. I'm new at this and looking for all the help I can get to do it right. So, What powder should I use and how much. What size caps 10 or 11.

I use 30 gr. pellets with a wonderwad and a ball. Saves screwing around with loose powder in the field. Closest thing to a speed-loader without changing to a spare cylinder. It's new-fangled, fer sure. Can't do it with a '51. They don't make them. I have a 20 gr spout for a pistol powder measure for 36 cal.

The 1858 is a foregiving revolver with few bad habits

I'd spend the extra money for a steel frame revolver.

Number 10 caps should fit.

At the store you will likely find Pyrodex (Get "P") or Triple Seven (FFFg) or Goex (Again it is FFFg)

The Hornady .454 balls they have are probably a good start.

Get some Spray Remington Gun Oil (Remoil) but don't buy it a Cabelas. It is much cheaper at Walmart. They should have patches at a better price too.

I sent you a Personal Message.

I have used Pyrodex pellets in both my Pietta 60 Army and my Uberti Remington NMA. 100% reliable and good accuracy when I do my part.
