Thoughts on Winchester Model 24?

I am inheriting a Winchester Model 24 12 gauge. Based on the serial number it is out of the 1950's. It is in awesome condition and is nearly unused. It was my grandfather's but my uncle got it when he died and now he is giving it to me.

Help me out...is this a decent gun? What do you know about it? Was it considered a good side-by-side double barrel shotgun? Did they have any issues?

not to sought after, problematic when new. Make a good wall hanger.

12 gauge 24s are on the clunky side. 16/20 gauge 24s handled better, all gauges tended to have problems with small weak extractors that like to overide the shells rim...but yours is a family heirloom...hunt it a couple times a year because it was Dads gun....and take good care of it...in v-good original condition a 12ga is worth in the 500/600 range on a good day....

+1 to comments above....in my area, value on them is around $ 250 or so ...they're just not sought after on the used market.

Thanks for the input. It looks nice and it's from my grandfather, so it means a lot in that sense.

I just never anticipated owning a side-by-side and knew nothing of this model, so again thanks.
