New Uberti Hombre

I decided to get one of these Hombre single actions that are being offered on Gunbroker for 250 dollars. I don't care for the flat finish at all so I had in mind to try my hand at making it look like an old, antique colt.

I used only some 1500 grit sandpaper and 4x0 steel wool. It looks pretty cool now I think. I may do something else with the grips...all I did so far was use some steel wool on them to fade the color a little. Also the brass could still use some attention.

What do you think, does it look like an old pistol?

It needs to have the brass blacked some and a few but not too many small scars in the grips to look really old.

I like mine "as is" so they match my two Uberti Millenium Remington NMAs. I like the matte black so they don't have any glare in the sun.

Nice job chaz12. I like it. I'd like to try my hand at it with one of my bp pistols. It dose make it look older/used. :)

Shotput79, I first got the idea when I saw this colt navy on gunbroker a while ago. But I only have one BP pistol, an 1860 army. The factory finish is so good that I don't think I could take the sandpaper to it.

That's why I used the Uberti Hombre for this experiment...I hated the finish in the first place.

If you have quite a few BP revolvers to choose, from, I say give it a go.

That Navy is a beauty! It looks like it has had an interesting life.
Aging those flat finish revolvers is sorta tricky, I worked over a .22 Cimaron Plinkster. I used buffing compound and a 6" wheel. It came out shiney bur worn-thru in places and it really faked authentic wear. Too bad the revolver ntotally broke at 1500 shots and is now a Bookend.
