Hello all and thanks for allowing me to be part of this community. Although I have been a shooter/hunter all my life, I am brand new to the sport of IPSC. My entry level firearm is a SA XD40 5" Tactical to shoot in the standard division.

Can anyone suggest a holster that would be a good place for me to start building a rig? I stumbled across this pic from a member here;

I do not recognize the manufacturer of the holster or mag pouches but this is kind of what I had in mind. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I shoot USPSA production division with a XD 40 service, using a Fobus holster and mag pouches with an inexpensive Velcro lined belt. Works very well for me (big time novice competition shooter), meets production division requirements, and was very affordable. The rig as pictured is not cheap and not legal for production division. A production division holster cannot go lower the 1/4" below the breach opening. The holster as shown is what is referred to as a race/speed holster. The mag pouches would be ok, but can't be more then 50mm from your body. If you wanted to shoot in limited, limited-10, or open, that rig (or one like it) would be the way to go.

I believe Safariland makes a holster or two that fit the XD tactical..
might give Rich at Canyon Creek a call as he is doing a lot of gunsmith work on the XD..http://www.canyon-creek.com/

the holster would work both for IPSC standard and IPSC production as I do not think it has the same restrictions as USPSA production..

I use the Springfield X-Gear holster that came with my XD-9. It works great for USPSA. I have a $20 Uncle Mikes kydex paddle holster for my 1911 that I use in Limited 10. Both are nice and pretty inexpensive.
