got the itch, lets palaver cowboy guns

Ok- I got the itch to get into CAS. I've been noodling an outfit togther.
Being the hard nosed cuss that i am, I bought some old Colts that had been
messed with in one way or another and tinkered them back to health, an old
92 takedown converted to .357 sometime in the past, an old '97 12ga takedown ( can't help it i love takedowns ) and maybe a few more items to come. So here it is- am i nuts for going down this trail? Should i have bought
a pair of rugers and a new in box '92 and a stoger? Anyone out there shoot
these oldies? Don't get me wrong, i respect ruger ( love to have a pair of
Gary Reeder Bisleys ) i just don't know if I'd drive 45 minutes to shoot em.

Not me.
My rifle is a '92 .44 WCF and my scattergun is an old, old, Verney Carron double. My main match sixguns are near new, a Colt 3rd and a Cimarron ASM; but I have shot my No 3 New Models enough to say I have. My pocket pistol is a S&W single action second model .38 and my long range rifle is a real "Highwall."

Where I shoot the originals get the most respect. Most guys, gals and kids shoot either clones or Rugers. I personally would love to shoot something off-the-wall. Too bad I could only afford Rugers.

I shoot the clones myself allthough I do have a turn of the century Colt SAA in .45 Colt, and a Krag Carbine for the side matches. My clone guns are repros of cartridge conversion percussion revolvers, a repro model 92 Winchester a repro Henry and a Mule Ear double and I do shoot the Holy Black. The Rugers, Marlin Cowboy's, and Norinco 97's are allright and a lot of the more competitive shooters tend to go with them to gain a competitive edge.

I have 3 Colts in.45, one in .357, and a Marlin in .45 . Love them all. Had 3 other Colts stolen some years age. All Colts are 3rd gen...............MUTT

I'm with Barclay. I can only afford new stuph (OK, I do have an original Colt Bisley but it's been converted to 38 Special).

You'll do just fine with those shooters.the real cowboys did not have matched nickel plated colts in silver inlaid holsters that never shot dry. ;)

I shoot dual matching Colt rep, in the 1862 cap and ball, a marlin lever in 44 mag, (but I am looking for a rep COLT cap and ball revolver rifle) and shotgun I borrow from a friend (870's are just a no-no)

I've been thinking about an Armi Sport ( taylor's) '92 in .45 Colt-
they're making a takedown version now- Anyone had any experience
with Armi Sport? I'm a little dodgey about buying something
I haven't handled. Bunker- I sure would like a pair of Schofields. I think
the S&W re-issue is too pricey. Feels kind of klunky, unlike the originals.
Must be becaused they beefed it up for liability reasons. The old Schofields
and #3s feel slim and elegant, point really well. I had the opportunity
to fire a few at one time. Unfortunately, the originals are way pricey
and probably too delicate to fire.

:D I've enjoyed my Navy Arms/Uberti long barreled Schofield in .45LC. The trigger was heavy when new but after about 500 rounds it is now light and crisp. You will draw attention when shooting against the folks with SAA's. My Navy Arms Schofield fit & finish is superb.........much nicer than I expected for a clone. Only my Cimmaron .45LC, nickle plated Thunderer with birdshead grips is finished as well. Yes, I would love a 1st or 2nd gen. Colt but it's not going to happen....I'm always low on funds.

I love the way the Uberti .44 Russian model balances, unfortunately I hate the cartridge. If they'd only offer the same gun, in .45...
