I just got my hunting permit for Mass and I need a slug gun. I am interested in a Remington 1100, however I have heard not great things about its O-ring failing often. I am on a limited budget of $800 max for the gun. But I would hope to spend less if I can.

Any ideas?

My father is partial to Browning.
I have had great experiences with 870s.

I am interested in a semi-suto

A lot of good slug guns are out there, From the bolt action Mossies and Savages to the NEF to the 870.

For autos the 1100 seems to be the best choice, and don't worry about the O ring until you've 5K rounds through the weapon. That's a lot of slugs.

O ring failures are common in clay guns due to the incredible volume of firing done.

However, if you've lots of experience with 870s, they make very good slug guns when set up properly and used correctly. Check the Archives for threads about this.
