I was wondering if somebody knows how the ventilated rib is attached to the barrel. Are the posts soldered? milled? . Could I just heat them up and remove them? I cut down a spare barrel( its still legal) and was looking at the ribs next. Thanks

were attached by silver soldering back in the good old days. Don't know about modern manufacturing methods.

Normally either silver soldered or sometimes mechanically through the use of dovestails or other fixtures and screws.

All the old ribs on double barrels were soft soldered on and so were some early vent ribs. This is why they can't be tank blued, as the bluing dissolves the solder. (The barrels on old doubles were soldered together as well, so tank bluing them resulted in four pieces.)

As noted above, most of the later ones were silver soldered, but some of the ones seen recently seem to be copper brazed.
